Slot Canyon Glow

I've always had a list of locations around the world that I want to visit or revisit and photograph. Contained within the list is a subset of locations where I want to create ultra-high-resolution images.  Some of the locations have been on the list for many years but as it turns out, 2024 was a good year for me, as I visited four of the locations on my ultra-high-resolution "hit list". Those locations were 1) Manarola in Cinque Terre, Italy, 2) a little-known loop in a mountain road about a 4-hour drive Northeast of Vancouver, BC, 3) Bryce Canyon, and 4) the slot canyons of Arizona. You can look for my images from all four of these locations on this website. 

In the case of slot canyons of Arizona, my visit was an extension of a planned trip with my son to hike in Zion National Park. Slot canyons, carved by water and time, offer narrow and winding routes through beautiful sandstone but present many challenges for photographers. The low light in the canyons requires long exposure times which in turn means a tripod must be used for high-quality photos. However, due to the tight spaces and the number of people visiting the popular canyons, tripod use is generally not allowed.  When creating ultra-high-resolution images, using special equipment mounted on a tripod is an absolute necessity. This 1,490-megapixel image was created by assembling over 1,640 images that were captured while shooting non-stop for over an hour. How was that possible? Sorry, my lips are sealed. But I hope you appreciate the uniqueness of this image and its incredible detail.
