Turquoise Grove

Canada’s mountain lakes are renowned for their turquoise color, which comes from glacier-fed rock flour suspended in the water. This fine rock powder is ground from rocks by glaciers and reflects the sunlight, creating the vibrant, milky blue-green hues. Well-known examples include Moraine Lake, Emerald Lake, and Lake Louise in Banff National Park; however, this turquoise appearance occurs in many other lakes and rivers in the area.

In the fall, many of the lakes and rivers have rising water levels that overflow into lower-lying sections of the shoreline. It is during this time that groves of aspens become surrounded by turquoise waters and provide stunning photographic opportunities.
